Sebastian Threadz NYFW Show for the Curvy Ladies

As the population changes, styles have to change along with it. Although there are still the size 2 or 6 model around on the runway, a “Curvy Girl” should never apologize for her desire to flaunt fun, flirty and fabulous looks. With this in mind, designer Sebastian Threadz decided to design ONE-OF-A-KIND timeless pieces for the Voluptuous Vixen.

The full size styles and looks have been so successful that on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Sir Studios located 474 10th Ave, Sebastian Threadz showcased her newest designs. This was the designers first time at NY Fashion Week, but will certainly not be her last.

The story begins as follows: Home sewing + Apparel design school = Sebastian Threadz! She began in early 2000 creating custom couture pieces for family, friends and local celebrities. After several years of success, we decided to develop limited edition collections which are produced twice yearly (Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter).

The clothing is manufactured in the San Francisco Bay area and the company prides itself on creating job opportunities for undiscovered talents with an expressive passion for all things fashion.

With that said, they are always on the lookout for the most unique prints, vibrant colors, exotic trims and embellishments to compliment our timeless contemporary silhouettes. Our one-of-a-kind tops, dresses and skirts are easy to wear and gracefully accentuate curves to make a statement. Each transitional look is crafted in various fabrications usually blended with Spandex.

Opening Night of the 2013 Ocktober Film & Music Festival in NYC

Using the resources available on the east coast and the success of emerging filmmakers and technologies, the Ocktober Music And Film Festival has become one of the most diverse festivals on the east coast.

On Tuesday, October 15, 2013, the Ocktober Music and Film Festival held its opening night at Mist Harlem in New York City. The festival opened with a red carpet and star studded gathering. The opening film was entitled “The North Star” by Writer/Director Thomas K. Phillips and stars Jeremiah Trotter, Thomas C. Bartley, Jr, Keith David, Lynn Whitfield, and Clifton Powell. The North Star is the story of two runaway slaves and their journey to freedom.

d2413bca4e6df2578eaec42b6f8cd282Following the film, there was a Q & A with the director and producer Dr. Benjamin Chavis, who is mostly known as the for being the former Executive Director of the NAACP. Both gentlemen were on hand to answer questions about the film. Quite a few of the cast members were on hand as well for the premiere of the film and photo opportunities.

In addition to the opening night film, veteran filmmaker Warrington Hudlin was on hand for a talk to discuss his successful career in Hollywood. For the 5th year for the Ocktober Music and Film Festival, founders, Emelyn Stuart and Anthony Jones spoke with attendees and discussed their journey putting the festival together. The festival runs from October 15th through 19th with short films, panels, workshops and networking events for all. Most of the events take place at Mist Harlem located at 46 West 116 Street in Harlem.

Melvin Van Peebles at Strivers Gardens Gallery in NYC

ded61067a664b1c519230826031906b0On Sunday October 6, 2013 from 3-4 pm, Melvin Van Peebles was available for an intimate conversation as part of the exhibition, eMerge 2.0: Melvin Van Peebles & Artists on the Cusp.

During the talk, Van Peebles was discussed his legendary career, visual art debut and his private art collection including paintings by George Helton. He also treated the audience to his love of verse as well.

With the visual art debut of pioneering director, novelist, journalist, playwright, actor, rapper and musician Melvin Van Peebles as its centerpiece, the showcase series, now in its second year, will feature Peebles’ “Ex-Voto Monochrome (A Ghetto Mother’s Prayer),” – mixed media meditation exploring the intersection between violence, economic disenfranchisement, womanhood and faith – and also boast noteworthy pieces from Van Peebles’ private collection, including two rarely-seen paintings by George Helton, deceased husband of Isabel Taylor.

Helton, designer of Van Peebles’ museum-like Manhattan apartment, which is home to the paintings, illustrations, and sculptures he’s completed over the years.

eMerge celebrates the future of contemporary art with some of today’s most exciting and evolving visual artists. Dynamic creations from 11 early-career artmakers, produced by re-imagining such everyday objects as thumbtacks, clothing buttons and vinyl records, will display alongside the items from the revered “master of artistic reinvention.”

Le Midi Restaurant Invite Only Grand Opening in New York on November 13, 2013

In fact, once you dine there for the first time, you are guaranteed to come time and time again. Le Midi is an exciting French bistro with cuisine so delicious you will swear that you are dining in France. The restaurant has a very lovely decor and creates an atmosphere where guests can enjoy outstanding food with friends.

Currently, the restaurant is already open daily for brunch, lunch an dinner. Also, Happy Hour takes place everyday from 5 pm to 7 pm, but the official invite only grand opening is not until November 13, 2013. On that specific day, dinner service will resume after 9 pm.

Le Midi’s owner Andrew Song has spent quite a bit of his adult life in London and France and he always enjoyed french food. This is very apparent by the authentic taste of the prepared meals. When deciding to open his restaurant a few years ago, french cuisine was his top choice. As a result of his time in France and world travel experience, Le Midi can bring quite a bit of the French experience to New York.

0d1ca2abee3d7ed51a665af556a07223While recently at an exclusive tasting, guests were treated to a vast array of choices on the menu. By the time the guests, left they were quite please and thoroughly enjoyed every dish from the appetizers to the main course and to dessert.

In New York City on Wednesday October 2, 2013, the legendary Waldorf Astoria hosted superstars Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson in a press conference to discuss the soon to be released filmentitled The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. For the film, Keys took on the role as Executive Producer and Music Composer while Jennifer Hudson was cast in the starring role as the heroine addicted mother Gloria. The film’s director George Tillman was also on hand at the press event for questions as well.

The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete is an American drama film directed by George Tillman, Jr. and written by Michael Starrbury. Although filled with some harsh realities, it is a coming of age story about two inner city youths, who are unfortunately left to fend for themselves over a hot summer after their mothers are taken away by the city housing authorities. Both of the young actors are new to film, but are unforgettable in their roles. Mister, portrayed by Skylan Brooks (Mister) and Pete played by Ethan Dizon’s on screen chemistry created two characters that the audience will remember for a very long time.

The film cast also includes: Anthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jordin Sparks andJeffrey Wright.

Many film goers may know that George Tillman, Jr., made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Soul Food. He also directed Men of Honor, and produced Barbershop. Tillman then returned to the director’s chair for Notorious and Faster. After falling in love with Michael Starrbury’s script for The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, he spent three years trying to get the film made.

It was a tough road for the film to come to life, but it was a story Tillman felt that needed to be told and one that audiences had not seen. The dream became a reality when Producer Alicia Keys came aboard. And although it took a little more time, the film began to come together. Since both Keys and Tillman were passionate about the project, they started working together to bring the riveting story that audience will now see on screen.

The Broadway Arrival of “After Midnight” in NY October 2013

The performances will be heart-pounding and mind-blowing entertainment for modern Broadway audiences. Refracted through a contemporary lens,After Midnight will celebrate Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club using his original arrangements and performed by a world-class big band of 17 musicians hand-picked by living jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis.

The timeless tunes set against a narrative of Langston Hughes poetry will provide an authentic backdrop for an array of cutting-edge performances by 25 sensational vocalists and dancers, including special guest stars, whose interpretations will shatter everything you think you know about music, nightlife and Broadway. As they prepare to make their Broadway debut in After Midnight, the incredible ensemble offered a sneak peek of the new musical with the assistance of stars Fantasia, Dulé Hill and Adriane Lenox.
