She is still active as an actress, but she is also a prolific writer. Her latest book is entitled “The Last Night” and in many ways, it is a celebration and ode to her late mother, but it is also a book created to inspire caregivers all around the world.

The journey book writing journey was one that took many paths. Bern Nadette Stanis was always planning another book, and she had something very special in mind. In fact, she stated that in a recent interview that “In 2008, Mom and I were sitting on the bed talking, and I told her I wanted to write a book about her. I said,“Mom, I want to tell your story so that people all over the world will know what a sweet, gentle, loving, smart, protective and wonderful mother you are, not just to me, but to all of your children and grandchildren. If I don’t tell this story, no one will know what a special life we had, and still have.” This was her inspiration.

The original idea was that Bern Nadette and her mother would be sitting side by side, signing our books together. Bern Nadette herself, was already traveling the country with other books she had published at that time, and she had her mom as her companion at every book signing. This was was great because people and fans were very excited to meet Bern Nadette and her mother. Many times they would ask her questions about how she felt about having a daughter who was on TV and who had become a legend due to her role on “Good Times.”

With all the success and responses of past book signing, Bern Nadette’s mom seemed to really like the idea of them writing a book together, but Bern Nadette soon discovered that this would never become a reality. A few years before , her mother had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the disease was much moving faster than they could form the ideas and organize the book.

Bern Nadette Stanis’ mom passed away on October 6, 2011. Soon after she began writing the pages that would become “The Last Night” and although it was a difficult time and she worked through much grief and sorrow, she was finally able to complete the book in her mother’s honor. This book was also written to comfort many the individuals who struggle with seeing their loved ones suffering through a monstrous disease or other life threatening illness. Bern Nadette Stanis puts it simply in these words, “May you travel with me through The Last Night-Caregiver’s Journey Through Transition and Beyond. The book is one of compassion and empathy to others.

Bern Nadette Stanis is now traveling around the country to promote the new book. Fans can find for information on the book on her website and will be signing her new book at the Baltimore Family Reunion Expo on September 12, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland.
