Styles for The Sharp Dressed Man Compliments of ARI Soho, New York

AriMusic Fans from the 1980’s may know the catchy hit song “Sharp Dressed Man” from the legendary rock band ZZ Top and while they may been the ones to sing about it best with the lyrics “Cause every girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man.” There are others who currently live with this mantra. With that said, it appears someone was absolutely taking notes. ARI, located in New York is definitely making sure there is always a sharp dressed man around whether in the office, on stage, on a date, at an event or just wanting to look good everyday. Whether it is with the original tailor made suits, leather jackets, custom made shirts and even originally designed shoes, any man who takes the time to shop in their store leaves with some of the absolute best looking clothing.

The story of Moshe Ben-Ari began 15 years ago and it is one of loving to make people look good. He recently revealed that he learned everything he knows about clothes from watching his mother. As it turns out, he grew up in a family who did not have a lot of money so his mother made his clothes. This experience impacted him and has shaped much of who he today. It might be safe to say, he experienced and wore handmade clothes before they were cool and continues to carry on that tradition.

At ARI it is very clear that the shopper likes his clothes made exceptionally well by masters of their trade. The clothes are very original and created to fit each customer. In fact, many of his customers have been coming to the store since it opened. In addition, many designs are exclusively and entirely made in Italy, with each garment cut and sewn following the tradition of legendary Italian craftsmanship and textile know how. Each garment combines this expert construction with great contemporary style is what makes ARI distinctively unique.

Since the store’s opening over 15 years ago, ARI has established itself as a menswear icon in one of the fashion capitol’s of the world and at the center of New York’s historic Soho neighborhood. The store is located in the cultural heart of downtown on West Broadway. And because being places in a great location, ARI is one of the many great companies as the street is conveniently lined with other fashion boutiques, renowned art galleries, and luxury showrooms. At a time when luxury brands are outsourcing their production and lowering costs at the expense of material quality and traditional construction, ARI has always designed and manufactured his collection in Italy and is still holding on to this commitment today.

The words “made in Italy” literally means an enduring tradition of design and attention to craftsmanship. Skilled designers, patternmakers, seamstresses, leathersmiths and corwainers have been passing down their sophisticated trade from one generation to the next. Every article we make is immersed in this culture of obsession with quality and technique.

ARI’s clothes can be defined as a combination of rugged style and contemporary refinement which can be seen in his jackets, jeans and leather coats. This also means you will find some of the best made denim, leather boots as well as tailored suits and dress shirts in their collection. Best of all, their clothes are tailored to the modern, athletic cut so every piece fits as good as it looks. Each style is so well made because they really do mirror the creator of such designs. Although ARI does design for each customer as they request, he also creates clothing that he wears himself. Any patron that visits his store, can quickly get a sneak peak on what jackets or shirts might look like which gives this more of a unique and personal touch.

ARI has been doing so well that they are looking to expand the brand. Before the end of 2015, Moshe Ben-Ari will be opening a new store another city also known for it’s style, Miami. It appears that this is only the beginning of what New York has known for a long time. ARI is the place to create quality looks for the sharp dressed man.

Mischka Velasco Presents Secret Sun Day Her Fifth NYFW Show

c99d4d6230dd0e53d4ebda8952bb4ba1At last season’s NYFW in February 2014, designer Mischka Velasco showcased her newest fashion collection to a capacity fashion audience in NYC. The collections were well received by all and she is now back to unveil a range of new creations at her show on Sunday 7th September.

For this season, Mischka Velasco’s latest collection is inspired by two American concepts: NY State’s well-known Hamptons beaches and the burning man festival in Nevada’s black rock desert.

The Hamptons are all about the fetish and worship of banality, the quest for a normal retreat, a place that is odd in that it longs sorrowfully for that innocent wonder of a yard and the serenity of a white picket fence. At Burning Man in contrast, devotees create realities from their childlike imagination and people commune in costume, art, fantasy and eventually burn everything created as a symbolic ritual of letting go. Burning Man lasts for a week, the Hamptons much longer but is a heavily populated world only in the summer. The Hamptons and Burning Man both create strong impressions of prejudice or awe. It is the risk of visiting and either belonging or longing. Yet somewhere is her longing for Santa Monica that blends with everyone’s All American dream.

Velasco aims to consider the question of what is a simple kind of life and hopes she can find an answer to this challenge, using nude draped jersey, denim, feathers and the 50’s allure of something so American and so deep in our hearts.
Velasco was born in Panama, grew up in New York and the Pacific Northwest and has done a lot of traveling to Europe and Asia. Each collection is inspired by music and her observations of current events.

Velasco makes a quick croqui (strong intense sketches to evoke the feeling of fashion in general). She and her colleagues work as a team as they create sometimes a sketch, sometimes a drape and always a lot of excitement in the workspace. There is a passion for skipping the muslin and working directly with the cloth in the dresses. For menswear she enjoys adding clever little pockets in a handsome subtle way, such as welted pockets on dress shirts in fine cotton. Velasco’s label is funny, elegant, and always surprising.

According to Velasco she states, “My main goal is to always refine the journey of being true to myself, a part of which is to manufacture all of my clothes here in New York.”

Join Mischka Velasco on Sunday, September 7th, 2014 at 7pm at the Last Rites Tattoo Theatre at 325 W 38th Street New York, NY 10018 (between 8th/9th avenues). Prepare to be wowed and dazzled at the same time by this one of a kind designer.

Designer MISCHKA VELASCO’s Fourth MBFW Show a Sellout in the Fashion District

Mischka Velasco

Mischka Velasco

On, Monday February 10, 2014 in the heart of Manhattan, Designer Mischka Velasco did not disappoint a sellout crowd at her fourth Manhattan Fashion Week show.

Velasco unveiled her 2014 Fall/Winter Women’s and Men’s Collection, subtitled “String Theory”, at an event held at the Top of the Garden in New York’s Fashion District. The effort appears to be paying off, with a sold-out show this week and her designs set to be work on the red carpet at a major awards event.
Through her distinctive vision, craftsmanship and attention to detail, Velasco uses textile combinations such as cashmere and silk dupioni to create a collection that is both feminine and edgy at the same time.

The collection is soft and feminine for women, while also having a distinct edge for men, including hidden pockets, bold plaid colorized prints and full-length zippered trench coats. Without obscuring a modern man’s sensibility, Velasco adhered to men’s traditional silhouettes while slightly raising their shoulders. “I don’t want to exaggerate the man’s silhouette, I‘d rather enhance their masculine, elegant strength.” Velasco said.

The enthusiastic response to this brand new collection brought many in New York’s fashion community to the Fashion District earlier this week – buyers, stylists, writers and photographers; this despite being up against some big name shows in the Fashion Calendar.

a7e83a6e42bf503e318c907f625b73b3Velasco clearly respects the techniques of haute couture, including the tailoring of men’s suits by hand, evident in the men’s collection. While respecting the traditions of craftsmanship, she is also capable of introducing new techniques to the design of her collection. She aims to continue the heritage of attention to detail, such as bound buttonholes and hand sewn suits, while preserving a sense of freedom in the design process.

For this show Velasco worked with Fashion Show Producer Deshawn Colbert, Lead Makeup Artist Londone Trebor with their Sponsor Lamik Beauty & Hair by Talibah Stewart and team; music by Broadway Cellist Peter Sachon and recording artist Serena Tideman; live music was provided by DJ Hauke Couture.

With her drive, ingenuity and ability to think out of the box, designer Mischka Velasco’s creations are set to be part of many other events and shows to come.

British Designer Chantell Walters Invades NY Fashion Week 2014

NYFW_Chantell Walters, Designer

Each season during New York Fashion Week, the fashion world is introduced to more fresh and creative additions to the runway. The hope is to make their mark and become a permanent fixture for future shows. One of the bright, new faces that graced the stage for February 2014 New York Fashion Week was British designer Chantell Walters.

On Friday, February 7th at 7 p.m. at the 320 Studios located at 320 W 37th St, 14th Floor in Manhattan, Walters launched her new Fall/Winter 2014 collection for New York Fashion Week. The event was quite fabulous with standing room only as the crowd anticipated the preview of the designer’s recent creations. The runway show was exclusively produced by fashion and design expert Tai Chunn and MVC Management Productions.

Walters was born and raised in London and developed a love of fashion and design at the early age of five. She cultivated this passion and attended the prestigious London College of Fashion in 2005, where she completed a degree in women’s wear. She had her first taste of being in the spotlight when she received recognition as a future star at the Niquitin CQ Fashion Awards judged by Hilary Alexander. She harnessed her creativity and gained inspiration from her various internship experiences with Preen, The Sunday Telegraph and stylist Jo Phillips (Tank Magazine), to name a few.

Walters launched her own label in 2009 with a collection of draped cocoon cardigans, which became her signature style. Part of that signature style is creating pieces that embody both innovation and femininity. She uses meticulous details, futuristic concepts and precise tailoring to capture her creative vision. Walters creates her collections to empower women, to radiate confidence and to honor the female figure.

One of Walters’ defining qualities is her drive to expand her label. She makes regular trips to destinations all over the world and uses her positive attitude to continuously grow her brand. Her ultimate goal is to inspire others to follow their dreams. She is creating classes geared toward teenage girls, in hopes of inspiring and nurturing an entirely new generation of young designers.

Walters has always found a quote by Belva Davis incredibly inspiring –“Don’t be afraid of the space between your dreams and reality. If you can dream it, you can make it so.”

Chantell Walters continues to follow her own dreams and is on the fast track to becoming a supreme luxury fashion house. The “British Invasion” is certainly coming, and she is a fashion force to be reckoned with. For more information on Chantell, visit her website for updates and the links to her social media presence.
